The Amazon River begins here

It’s called the “Nevado Mismi”. Mismi is a snowcapped volcanic mountain peak in the Chila mountain range and has been verified three times, in 1996, 2001, and 2007, as the most distant source of the Amazon River. The waters from this stream flow into the Quebradas Carhuasanta and Apacheta, followed by a number of other major river systems as it travels across South America and into the Atlantic Ocean. The tiny origin of the world’s largest river is simply marked by small wooden cross.
