The TI-84, with its 1970s-style low-resolution graphics screen, is valued by teachers because it is limited enough to be able to be used in classrooms where students can't use them to get mathematical solutions too quickly.  As the rest of consumer computer technology advances, this school calculator is deliberately hobbled so that kids still learn at the same pace using the same curriculum that they have for decades.
